My deepest conviction regarding any form of art is that it must arise unscripted and simultaneously through individual creative genesis. If only one artist, composer, or conductor takes his vision as flawless, he is in danger of denying the reality of others' inspiration and perception, which are, indeed, necessary to explore the aesthetics of Art in all its forms.
To interpret Art, and especially vocal/instrumental performance, an artist must recognize that a musical line is not a massive, stationary iceberg frozen in place. It is as liquid as a soft flowing brook, gently tolerating the little pebbles that give its rhythmic metric pulse; a raging swollen river slamming debris recklessly; the ocean ebbing, its fingers trying desparately to cling to the shore, inevitably being drawn back; a lake whose calmness stands in contrast to the brooks that are its source. One hears this pulse if one listens with a receptive ear. "Music speaks when all else fails." It speaks to the soul, and it is not static but dynamic for it is always being reinterpreted through enlightenment.
Chamber music is the running brook, unique, a small tile in the musical mosaic of any community. There is nothing quite like a motet, Art song, or famous Aria. As a lover of chamber music, I have performed, taught, and directed this gorgeous body of work my whole life to the delight of audiences. This is my own contribution to this free flowing brook. I encourage you to seek your own ways to support chamber music in our community.
